upcoming artists from other genres as a feature article - Bruno Mars
- effects of the rain, in the video - good idea for the background of the feature articles
rain/snow in the background.. Christmas issue as well, keeps in themes.

i like the ongoing theme throughout, that perhaps he is in nowhere, not doing anything specific just playing music out in the open, free willed.
dancing between band members, conveying happiness and having a good time, what i want the band that i photograph to be like.
series of photographs in a montage as well, idea taken from the video.

http://www.YouTube.com/watch?v=sk8Pb17pcQI
i know the band i want to photograph have covered this song,
i like the ongoing themes throughout, and the powerful lighting behind the band, making them stand out,
fall out boy have a different approach to creating the video, with the bad members all of the place, and loads of different things going on at once, i think because of the genre of the magazine the layout should be out there, like most of the video's.

i like the theme of water in this video, especially with the gun at the beginning of the video i think this might have to be apart of the logo for the tittle of my magazine.
And as its about new artists, there can be features of the legends that have inspired them.

http://www.YouTube.com/watch?v=kHdopiRlgyA
feature on the biggest rock festival DOWNLOAD.
always in June, and will be a good cover line and story to put into the magazine, and also automatically makes it appealing to anyone interested in metal and rock, as they'd know about download.

http://www.downloadfestival.co.uk/2011/lineup/
Themes/logos and images around the home page, that is recognisable as the download festival

http://www.YouTube.com/watch?v=gZBQsRz3xdU
mainstream band that broke up on hiatus for years, and are getting back together and headlining download, very popular well known band in metal history.
Color schemes they use in this video, the green lighting throughout, with the bold colours like the red of the bird.
Red bird also another idea for the logo of my magazine, along with the gun from the Nirvana video.

Foundation production - Research

As i would like to do a rock/metal magazine, I've been looking at Kerrang! and NME.

Kerrang!
One of the most famous Rock magazines at the moment, most known for its Reviews on Gigs and events, The band pictures, Interviews, And gossip. As well as giving the up to date in the rock music world.
The logo/tittle is so known now, that they generally cover up certain parts of it with the front cover images, of famous artists, and whoever is on the front, has a page about them in the magazine. The colour scheme normally stays the same, black and white font for the tittle, and also being the main theme throughout, but also adding colour in different Plugs and puffs and cover lines. The price generally stays the same, and its a popular magazine for teenagers to purchase, so the money behind  the magazine has increased and keeps on increasing the more it becomes popular.

NME
Is another famous magazine, well known for it's gossip, gifts, interviews, and news. It's a favourite among the rock magazines, as it works harder to aim its audience and teenagers, everything about the magazine becomes appealing, with the pictures of the artists, and the eye catching plugs and puffs. With a good price its a attractive purchase. Bold blocks of colour,  that are very bright and appealing so when potential customers look on the magazine rack its the one that stands out.

Evaluation

Finally finished the Front cover and Contents page, it was hard from the beginning just getting used to using Indesign and Photoshop, the first time i had properly used both as well. Still now its gets a little confusing, but you learn new stuff each lesson, and i now know the basics to each application.
The front cover went OK i think, from designing the logo i had started to struggle, but once i had it done, everything went well from there. However i would take more variety of pictures if i were to do this task again, as i thought they were not the best of pictures, but they did work at least. Thinking of the layout was the hardest past, especially for the front cover, not so much the contents page. But i kept the colour scheme and font scheme going well, and made sure there wasn't any mistakes with that. The contents page was easier and i managed to get it complete quite quickly. The only thing i kept messing up on was the blocks of colour, it gets quite annoying when your trying to place everything where you want it and perhaps it wont go there as easy as you want it to. But once i completed both the only thing was to change the files in export to jpegs. So overall i think the task went well, but not brilliant, if i were to do it again, i would appraoch each thing differntly and think about the layout more in detail, so i knew what i was doing and how i would do it. That way i wouldn't get myself annoyed or worked up about certain things, like the pictures, or the layout.

Contents Page

This went better then the Front cover, when it came to developing it on Indesign, i managed to get it done in the space of one lesson, which i was happy about as i did have to catch up. It was easier as i learned and figured out what to do and what not to do from the front cover. I like the layout to this and how that came along, keeping the colour scheme the same throughout with the Blue, Black and Pink. However if i were to change anything it would have to be the layout of the actual contents, the text. I'm not to happy about how it panned out, seems quite simple. As well as the pictures, if i were to do this differently in future, I'd make sure i had more of a selection of pictures, so the magazine looked all together quite eye catching and appealing.

Final front cover

This is my final front cover, i managed to get it finished finally, whilst learning new things from Indesign, how to export,  to change the files into jpeg, how to place pictures into the frame, and them fit them proportionately. As well as keeping to my color scheme of the black, pink and blue.  It got quite irritating in places, when it came to the blocks of colour, and moving them back so the text could be seen over the top. It was also hard coming up with the layout, and what to put in each space, as well as filling up the page with captions that would make the magazine appealing.

Preliminary task - Front cover

In this lesson, we have started on our front covers, for the college magazine. Iv'e been working on photoshop changing the format of the pictures to eps's and placing them into Indesign, as well as the logo (tittle) Since then iv'e been trying to practise writing text onto lines, and playing around with the layout. Still not happy with what iv'e done so far, so i need to keep working on the final outcome.

IPC Media Case Study

About the company;
They produce over 85 media brands,
-       With the print brands alone reaching nearly two thirds of UK Women,
-       44% UK Men
-       Almost 27 million UK adults
-       Online brands reach 20 million users every month.

‘IPC diverse print and digital photography offers something for everyone’
-       With there focus being on three core audiences;
-       Men mass market, Women uptown market.

Men’s portfolio – Country life, Horse & Hound, Rugby World, Decanter, Nuts, Mousebreaker and NME

Women’s Mass Market Division – Look, Now, Chat
& Entertainment brands – What’s on TV, TVTimes, TV & Satellite Week

Uptown Women’s division – Marie Claire, InStyle, Women & Home, Essentials, ideal home, Livingetc, housetohome

“IPC Media groups its current titles under five magazine divisions: Connect (women's weeklies such as Now Magazine and Look), Inspire (leisure and specialist), Ignite! (Men’s lifestyle and entertainment), SouthBank (women's lifestyle and home interest), and TX (portfolio of television titles). In addition there are: Ideal Home; and Marketforce, the UK's leading magazine distribution business. Digitally they have WOTV[12] and goodtoknow.[13]”

History;

‘International Publishing Corporation Ltd was formed in 1963 following the merger of the UK's three leading magazine publishers – George Newnes, Odhams Press and Fleetway Publications – who came together with the Mirror Group to form the International Publishing Corporation (IPC)’

“All of the existing companies would continue to exist, but as IPC subsidiaries.[4][5]
IPC then set up a management development department in 1965, to rationalize its holdings, so that its various subsidiaries would no longer be in competition with each other for the same markets. This led to a reorganization of the Group, in 1968, into six divisions:
IPC Newspapers (including The People and The Daily Herald from Odhams, as well as the Daily Mirror and Sunday Pictorial).
IPC Magazines, publishing the consumer magazines and comics.
IPC Trade and Technical, publishing the specialist magazines (later known as IPC Business Press Ltd).
IPC Books, handling all book publishing (headed by Paul Hamlyn, whose own company had been acquired by IPC).
IPC Printing, handling all non-newspaper printing operations (headed by Arnold Quick, whose own company had also been acquired by IPC).
IPC New Products, a launching pad for products which used new technology (headed by Alistair McIntosh).”

Why Might IPC be an appropriate publisher?
IPC has a lot of experience with not only different target audiences but also with different types of genre, when it comes to magazines, also there set audiences that they aim for are the most popular when it comes to buying magazines. With a wide range of variety in magazine publishing they would be a likely target for the appropriate publisher.

However when it comes to music magazines there main ones are, Kerrang and NME, which fall under the genre category as heavy metal, rock, alternative and music surrounding that genre.
IPC would be more likely to perhaps publicize a heavy metal music magazine then a dance magazine for example.

Alternative publishers

Bauer
-       Another mainstream publishing company, who also have a lot of magazine companies that they publicize,
-       They also work with a lot of localized radio stations and also more well known popular radio stations,
-       Along with a selection of music magazines, of a wider range, like again Kerrang ( an radio) , FHM, and more.
-       They work with sections of media as well as magazines, TV and Online.

They would be a more likely choice of publishing because of the wider range of not only music magazines but of all magazines,
You could focus your magazine on perhaps more then one type of genre in music, which would make an appropriate magazine, one they would be more likely to publicize.

We we're asked to go around college, and think about what sort of pictures we could use for a college magazine. We we're asked to think of different angles, lines, divides and perspectives.
Aswell as adding in students, and generally thinking of what sort of thing would look good in the magazine.

These are the originals, before i edited them, to show the difference between the two...

This was taken looking into Courtyard, I wanted to get a different style of capturing 'everyday' things around college, but I wasn't sure about the reflections, and whether they would look bad or not so i played around with different effects, and curves to make it a little more clearer. I tried also making the reflection of the lens of my camera clearer, by blocking the colour, but in the end it didn't come out clear enough so i deleted the layer.
When we came back, we had to upload all of our pictures, and go through at least one, or a few and practice on Photoshop, editing and playing around with the images. Generally getting used to the tools of photoshop.

<-- Here I've manly played around with the contrasting, brightness and colour levels. Highlighting the green of the grass, and where the sun is shinning from, over the space by Studio Cafe, and Coffee house.
This was taken in reception, and like the one before I have played around with mainly brightness levels, and contrast, i wanted to show the shades inside, and the vibrant colour outside.

Getting To Know InDesign

This was a task set to get us used to using InDesign, and getting familiar to the tools on the program. We initially started making shapes, and playing around with the colour schemes and effects, And learning how to place an image in the middle of text, and get the collums to carry on with the text. We learnt how to get text onto curves and the basics around InDesign.
